With strong emphases in acting, musical theatre, new works, and design/technical theatre, the NMSU program prepares students for graduate study or a life in the profession. Students gain practical experience through a wide array of courses designed to expose them to the varied aspects and positions involved in theatrical production. The faculty is augmented by nationally-renowned theatre artists-in-residence and workshop presenters.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Communicate effectively in front of an audience, applying learned concepts while exercising freedom and control of voice, body, and imagination
2. A general understanding and the ability to communicate the artistic roles and functions within the theatre industry (including within NMSU Theatre as a model)  
3. Demonstrate and apply how to safely and competently use sewing machine, fabric dye, patterns, and hand stitching as applied to theatrical costuming.  
4. Demonstrate and apply how to safely and competently use hand tools, power tools, and electronic stage equipment as applied to set creation for theatrical productions.
5. Identify, describe and experience as available the roles of various theatre artists including actors, directors, playwrights, dramaturges, and designers
6. Understand, research, write about and discuss seminal works in theatrical literature
