Independent Study (THTR 337)

Independent Study (THTR 337) is a course offered here at the NMSU Theatre Arts Department for students who wish to explore a more focused and one-on-one form of practice of a specific craft. We offer acting, sound design, lighting design, set design, costume design/construction, and many more.

Objectives:

Independent Study is a course for highly motivated students who wish to propose and create their own course not covered through regular course offerings.  The content of this course and its grading criteria are proposed by the student and accepted under the mentor-ship of a member of the faculty.  As a self-guided course, students will be expected to monitor their own progress throughout the semester and meet the deadlines they have set.  Faculty are to provide limited instruction for this course; rather, students are expected to choose their own textbooks or related instructional material as the basis for their study.  Students may count up to 6 credits of Independent Study towards their graduation requirements.

Withdraws:

Students who wish to withdraw from the class may do so before the school’s last date to drop with a “W” (see school calendar). You are responsible for attaining a drop slip and obtaining the appropriate signaturesIf you drop a class on-line or are told that someone else will drop you, you need to check and make sure that the class was properly dropped.  The same applies to adding a class.

 

Incomplete Grades:

Incompletes will only be given for students who have passed the first half of the course and are precluded from completion of the second half of the course due to documented illness or family crisis.

 

Late Work Policy/Make-up Work:

Late work will not be accepted unless previously agreed upon by both the student and the faculty member.  Even though this is an Independent Study course, you are under obligation to meet all deadlines set forth in this syllabus.
