Overview of Our Program

At NMSU Theatre, our students are our most important asset. In our program you’ll have opportunities to perform, design, stage manage and even direct main-stage productions. We allow incoming freshmen to work on productions right away, either as actors or backstage crew. Schools with graduate programs often prioritize graduate student needs above undergraduates; at NMSU Theatre, we have only an undergraduate program, so you are our top priority and get all production opportunities. Best of all, there is no audition to get into our program: all you need to do is simply declare Theatre as your major when you enroll!

For those of you who are residents of Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming, you may enroll at NMSU at 150% of in-state tuition as part of the Western Graduate Exchange. This same program enables residents of Arizona and Colorado to pay in-state tuition at NMSU.

With our commitment to working with guest professional artists, top-quality productions, and a student-oriented program that allows you to act, stage manage, design, and direct in the $38-million-dollar ASNMSU Center for the Arts, we are confident you’ll understand why NMSU Theatre offers the best undergraduate training in the Southwest!
