Scholarship Information

 

 

The Department of Theatre Arts offers a variety of scholarships for current students, as well as incoming students of exceptional talent. We are proud to offer one of the highest scholarship endowments of any department in the College of Arts and Sciences at NMSU!

 

How to Apply: Current Students

  1. You must meet the following criteria for all departmental scholarships:
    • Be a full-time student for the duration of your award.
    • Be a declared Theatre major for the duration of your award.
    • Have at least a 3.0 GPA for the duration of your award.
  2. Fill out and submit the financial aid forms through the NMSU Scholar Dollars website. This step must be completed by the deadline posted on the site (usually March 1st)!
  3. After completing your Scholar Dollars application and the deadline has passed, you should apply specifically for Department of Theatre Arts Scholarships. The information the Scholarship Committee requires to review your application can be found HERE. 
  4. Prepare your supplementary materials as requested, then send them by EMAIL ONLY to Tamara Carruthers  (tcarruth@nmsu.edu) no later than 4 p.m. on April 1, 2024. (This is a change from the previous system that required hard copies in report folders.) If you cannot drop off your application in person, then physically mail all materials so that they will arrive by the deadline. Send them to:

How to Apply: Incoming Freshman & Transfer Students

  1. You must meet the following criteria for all departmental scholarships:
    • Be a full-time student for the duration of your award.
    • Be a declared Theatre major for the duration of your award.
    • Have at least a 3.0 GPA for the duration of your award.
  2. Read and follow the instructions here.  Your scholarship application is due no later than 4 p.m. April 15th.  If you have any questions, please email Tamara Carruthers here.

THOMAS A. ERHARD SCHOLARSHIP

  • Criteria: Varying amounts awarded to a full time Theatre Arts major who has demonstrated interest in playwriting.
  • Donor: Friends and students of Dr. Thomas A. Erhard

SHARON BETH KALLICK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Criteria: Awarded to full time students pursuing degrees in Theatre Arts.
  • Donor: Family and friends of Sharon Beth Kallick

MARK AND STEPHANIE MEDOFF ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Criteria: Awarded to full time students pursuing degrees in Theatre Arts.
  • Donor: Mark and Stephanie Medoff

KIMBERLY MING THEATRE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

  • Criteria: Awarded to a junior, senior or graduate student majoring in Theatre Arts. Preference is given to a New Mexico student.

SUTHERLAND-MCMANUS SCHOLARSHIP

  • Criteria: Awarded to students in the Theatre Arts Department.
  • Donor: Constance Sutherland, William Sutherland and friends

THEATER ARTS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Criteria: Awarded to students in the Theatre Arts Department.
  • Donor: Faculty, staff and friends of NMSU Treatre Arts

  • Criteria: Awarded to musical theatre concentration students in the Theatre Arts Department .
