Auditions

NMSU Theatre Arts and American Southwest Theatre Company hold auditions for our productions twice a year. We advertise specific dates in all the local newspapers; however, they generally fall on the Saturday after classes begin at New Mexico State University (in late August and mid-January). We audition all our Fall shows in August, and our winter/spring shows in January. No later than one week before auditions, a sign-up sheet located on the callboard in the Hershel Zohn Theatre lobby is available for auditioners to sign-up for a specific audition time.

Auditions are open to the public, although we give special consideration to students currently enrolled at NMSU. All auditions are private, meaning only directors and related parties are present.

NMSU Theatre Arts majors are required to prepare either 2 contrasting monologues (each no longer than 60-seconds in length) or 1 monologue and 16 bars of a song, depending on what is asked for in the audition notice.

Community members and non-Theatre Arts majors are generally required to prepare 1 monologue (memorized and no more than 60-seconds in length) or 1 monologue and 16 bars of a song (if requested in the audition notice).

Auditioners are asked to dress professionally but comfortably and arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time to check in and fill out paperwork.

Callbacks (the next round of auditions) occur the next day (Sunday). Casting is posted by 12 noon on Monday.
